1952 Wine: a Look at Bordeaux

Saga Sapphire | Saga Pearl II and Saga Ruby cruises - Saga Cruising ...While 1952 was not a dynamite year for wine production in Bordeaux, it certainly was an interesting one. The summer of 1952 began strong with warm temperatures and dry weather. All signs pointed to a good harvest, but then the season ended with cold temperatures and massive rainfall during harvest season. Because of these weather patterns, 1952 Wine from Bordeaux tends to favor the right bank that was able to harvest before the rains. These areas include Pomerol and St-Emilion. It was the 1952 wines produced from these right bank vineyards that truly shone during this dismal season. Along with the strong traditional Bordeaux reds, a surprisingly good batch of Clarets was produced along the right bank region that year as well. Wines from these regions today are some of the strongest with bold flavors upon first taste, leading into softer, fruity notes that have developed with the aging process.

Understanding the Differences Between the Various Wine Storage Options

For making the most of a limited amount of space that has been allocated for the express purpose of wine storage, there are a number of different solutions that many wine enthusiasts can turn to. This is normally intended for dedicated rooms that have had their temperature and light conditions adjusted and controlled to levels that are ideal for long and medium term wine storage such as wine rooms or underground wine cellars.

These wine storage solutions are equally as good for less primed environments such as a corner of a kitchen pantry or spare bedroom closet. Wine racks and wine shelves are a common way for many wine aficionados to store and organize their collections. If climate controlled wine vaults or wine cellars are outside the budgets of a wine enthusiast, wine coolers are good temperature and humidity controlled alternative. Overall most of these storage options can accommodate medium and large sized collections.

Ash All over the City!

This past weekend there were a few strange days because of the ash that drifted in to Buenos Aires, from the volcano. On Sunday, we could not see the sun or sky, because of the amount of ash. The next day when we woke up all the cars were covered in bits of ash, and it looked like they had been driving in the countryside with how much dust was on their car. It’s strange to see how the wind moves the ash, because now it is sunny out and barely cloudy.

I am glad it came and went, because the gloomy clouds put a strange damper on the day. We walked around all day Sunday when the ash was overhead, but it was a crummy day to be outside. This week I want try and really utilize the sunny days and see some sights. I only have about 1 month left and that gives me very little time to see everything with just the weekends ahead, especially if I will be leaving to Iguazzu Falls soon and perhaps Uruguay. I need to sit down for a day and plan out a good itinerary of all the places I need to see and activities I want to do before leaving. The last week I am here I will be going to a tango lesson and show, which will be very cool.

I want to be able to go home and at least know one or two things about the Tango. A group of us will also try to catch a delicious Buenos Aires wine tour. There are a few museums I’m still trying to make it to before I leave, one of those being the Malba. If possible I really want to go to the Teatro Colon to see an opera or orchestra.
